This study investigates the linguistic and rhetorical challenges of translating the Qur'anic preposition ‘bi’ into English, with a focus on eight selected verses. The interpolated preposition serves multifaceted semantic functions, including emphasis, intensification, sufficiency, negation, and comprehensiveness, all of which are critical to conveying the original meaning of the Qur'anic text. However, these nuanced functions are often lost or diminished in translation. Using Nida's componential analysis approach, the study assesses the effectiveness of various English translations and reveals significant semantic losses stemming from inadequate representation of connotations and misaligned lexical choices. To address these issues, the research advocates exegetical translation techniques, such as the use of footnotes, bracketing, and additional clarifications to restore lost rhetorical and semantic depth. The study also highlights the importance of intertextual ‘tafsir’—interpreting the Qur'an in light of related verses—to preserve coherence and richness. Ultimately, it emphasizes the need for collaboration and profound exegesis for more accurate translations.
